Why it’s important to make your workouts versatile

Keeping your home workouts versatile is probably more important and provides more benefits than you think. When you repeatedly target the same muscles or areas in the same way your body gets used to it, causing it to become less effective over time. To avoid losing the effectiveness in your workouts and to keep seeing results you need to keep your body on its toes.

Not only will switching up your workouts help get you through a weight loss plateau or get you seeing results again, but it will also help to prevent injury. Focusing on the same muscles can cause you to overuse them, increasing their risk of injury. Working on different muscles groups or areas of your body will give some of your usual hard-worked muscles a bit of a break.

Most importantly, making your workouts different and versatile keeps them fun and interesting. Exercising is amazing for mental and physical health and looking forward to a fun workout can only boost those benefits. If you notice yourself dreading, bored or sick of working out, you may need a change of routine, exercises or environment.

Experiment With Different Exercises

One of the best ways to make your workouts versatile and keep your body on its toes is trying out new exercises or routines. Look into different exercises online or speak to a friend and see what exercises you could try that would suit you and your goals. Trying something new can target new muscles, give your body a challenge and make your workouts more interesting for you to complete.

Give yourself weekly challenges

Give yourself a challenge every week, you could start off with smaller challenges and continue to grow them as the weeks go on. A challenge could bring out your persistent, determined or competitive nature, giving you something different and interesting to achieve outside of your usual goals. It’s always a fantastic way to keep yourself motivated to workout. When setting fitness goals, results can take time and motivation can feel lost but setting smaller goals alongside and achieving them, will keep your fire going!

Put a Twist on Your Usual Exercises

If you’re a big fan of the exercises you already do regularly, instead of changing t a whole new exercise, put a twist on the ones you love. This can be easily done in several ways. An excellent way is adding a resistance band to the exercise. Adding a resistance band to a squat, for example, increases the intensity and difficulty of the movement and further engages your glutes and squads. Increasing the intensity of the exercise will increase results further, especially great if you’ve hit a plateau.

Make a Playlist/Update Your Current Playlist

Music is great at getting us pumped up and energised to workout but playing the same songs over and over can flatten that energetic boost. Consider updating your playlist by adding new songs or swapping out some of your overheard songs for more upbeat and modern tracks.

Work Out With a Partner

Working out on your own is great but sometimes you need another person to keep you going and motivate you to go through with your workouts. They may also be able to give you some new workout ideas, techniques or positions to better your workout and your health. As well as that, working out with a friend could provide some much-needed laughs and fun!

Follow a Tutorial

There are thousands of exercise routines you can follow along with for free on youtube and they’re great for changing up your routine and doing things you wouldn’t normally try or consider doing. Most likely, you’ll be doing different exercises to your usual workout routine by following someone else’s routine, so you’ll give different muscles a chance to engage.

Get Moving!

Don’t let your workouts become tedious or boring. Keep your body moving in the right direction with new, different or more intense exercises. Give yourself smaller goals to give you something to focus on week by week, boosting your regular motivation levels. Stay energised with an upbeat music playlist or workout with a friend for extra laughs. Up the ante of your workouts with a resistance band, they’re an amazing way to intensify your ordinary workout and get you seeing better results quicker.
